About Us
The Iowa State University Alumni Association was founded in 1878 to engage the talents and resources of alumni,
students, and friends in the life, work, and aspiration of Iowa State University. We continue that tradition
today through a number of our programs and service—our grass roots legislative advocacy program, the Alliance for
ISU, is one of those opportunities.
The Alliance for ISU is a nonpartisan coalition of alumni, parents, students and other ISU friends who value
higher education and want to keep Iowa State University strong.
Once you sign up to be a member of the Alliance for ISU, you can be involved to whatever degree you are able.
Whether helping us organize alumni in your area, or simply corresponding on ISU’s behalf to your local
legislators, we value everything our members do on behalf of Iowa State University.
The Alliance for ISU corresponds a number of times each year to enable advocates to interact personally with
their legislators and Iowa State University administrators. Our Alliance for ISU members meetings serve
as informational sessions where members learn about the current budget situation and issues at the
state capitol. In the future, our Alliance for ISU Day at the Capitol will give our members the opportunity
to participate in prearranged meetings with their legislators to discuss the importance of higher education
and Iowa State University.

Advocacy can mean more than communicating with legislators. At times, a letter to the editor of your local
newspaper, speaking before civic groups or contacting your media sources in support of Iowa State can be
very effective.
